Laziness

I have had exams during the past few weeks, and spent my time focussing on those as well as a novel I’m writing instead of my VN-stuff >3> I’m slowly getting back into my old workflow, but not really doing very much yet x,D For some reason, it’s insanely difficult for me to edit a branched story. Straight text is easy, but somehow, I’m really scared to even start…we’ll see.

On a brighter note, I got into Google SketchUp, and I’m thinking about using it to churn out some pretty BG-CGs, because I don’t have the patience to draw them from scratch x,D Modelling takes a long time, but it’s still a lot faster than my drawings. Just a quick sample, the fastest render settings and zero texture x,D items on shelves etc. are yet to be added >=>

Modelling stuff from imagination is not so easy.

Losing words + Screens

More sprite sketches.

I deleted roughly 1800 words from the story; they belonged to a proluge that was way too wordy and didn’t fit in xD Other than that, I didn’t write very much >=<

However, I’m still working on Midnight Noize, of course! Started organazing the script for edits, I will probably start once my fall vacation starts next week. It’s highly likely to go above 10k as I extend it, but that’s okay, no sweat xD The only thing that’s troubling me is Ren’Pys screen language. I wanted to do the interface using Ren’Pys built-in ui-functions, but they are surprisingly difficult to figure out =<

Well…keep trying, I guess. If all fails, I still have my imagemaps xD Also, I’m going to make a new design for this blog. This one is too…image-heavy? xD Takes focus away from the content.

I wrote all of that in four days…gaah, exhausting, but at least it’s done Dx as a comparison, this is the Lint of the old version:

I didn’t even edit the old script after it was done. What was I thinking?

Remaking Midnight Noize

What it says in the title. (Screenshot from the old version)

Maybe some people will remember Midnight Noize, my very first publicly released Ren’Py-VN. It had a German and an English version…the German one is the one you see above. Why did I decide to remake it? Well, I’m glad you asked!

  • Testing stuff: I want to play around with a few new Ren’Py functions, in real-world examples
  • The art and writing are embarrassingly bad. I feel guilty for having this float over me like a sword of Damocles x,D
  • I want to practice. I’ve been writing quite a lot lately, but regular novel/short story format is a bit different. Plus, I can’t afford to mess around too much with the sprites in PH =<
  • Screw this list, redoing crap is just fun.

The story is easily five times as long now, which actually justifies that single event CG I had in the old version x,D There will be only four endings instead of seven, two of them are written and I’m roughly 4k words into the story…trying to keep it under 10k. I don’t want to go overboard >=< Oh, and before I forget…you can check out WIPs of Mayura’s new sprite on the art blog.
